Dr Sheila Scott, Director of Public Health

"An important part of my role as Director of Public Health is to ensure that the Board has accurate information on which to base decisions about the redesign of services and to provide an objective Public Health perspective to the ongoing debate about service sustainability. Areas of work which are broad based and rely on the contributions of many individuals from different backgrounds, disciplines and organisations are often a challenge to manage and maintain, but can be immensely rewarding in the long term."

Overview of Role and Function

The Division comprises five teams covering Health Protection, Health Promotion, Health Information, Specialist Public Health functions and Planning. A Nurse Consultant has been recruited to lead the Health Protection function and to share the responsibility for provision of emergency cover. This places the Board on a secure footing in the event of a major communicable disease outbreak and provides a lead for screening and immunisation activities.
