Welcome

Our staff are committed to introducing themselves to you whenever they meet you or provide you with clinical care. We’re here to help. Please speak to one of our staff if there is anything you want to tell us or would like us to know.

What to expect:

It is our responsibility to make sure that our wards, departments and services deliver high quality care that is safe, person-centred and effective.

What this means for you:

Safe

  • We will ensure our environments are safe places that are clean and well maintained.
  • We will check on our patients frequently to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • We will minimise the risk of infection by following NHS Western Isles Standard Infection Control Precautions.
  • We will monitor standards of care and practice through a range of quality improvement measures and take action to improve care where necessary.

Person-Centred

  • We will treat all patients, carers, relatives and staff with care and compassion and value them as individuals.
  • We will ensure that our patients are informed about and involved in the care which is planned for them. With their consent, we will ensure that their carers are also involved.

Effective

  • We will take action if clinical practice and standards fall below an acceptable standard.
  • We will carefully consider any feedback received from patients, carers, relatives or staff.
  • Staff will perform effectively within their roles and will be encouraged and supported to develop their knowledge and skills.

Additional Support

If you feel that you, or a relative who we are caring for, would benefit from some additional support to make their stay more comfortable, or to help them communicate, please ask a member of staff. We offer:

  • Communication tools through Speech & Language, such as Boardmaker
  • Playlist for Life, the personalised music playlist
  • What Matters To You, highlighting the most important things to you
  • Alternative support (such as hearing loops)
  • Languageline, for those who need support in other languages
  • Signposting to other support groups
