Mental Health and Learning Disability Services

NHS Western Isles provides a comprehensive range of mental health services for people living in the Western Isles. These are:

NHS Western Isles Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Services

In patient facilities (Western Isles Hospital):

  • Clisham Ward (for people who have dementia)
  • The Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) (for people who are acutely unwell)

Community Psychiatric Nursing (CPN) services:

  • Stornoway (provides a service to people living in Lewis and Harris)
  • Balivanich (provides a service to the people living in the Uists)
  • Barra

Child and Adolescent  Mental Health Services (CAMHs):

  • Stornoway (supports children and adolescents who live in Lewis and Harris)
  • Balivanich (supports children and adolescents who live in the Uists and Barra)

Alcohol and Substance misuse:

  • Stornoway (provides a service to people who live in Lewis and Harris)
  • Balivanich (provides a service to people who live in the Uists and Barra)

Community Nursing Service for people & carers with Learning Disability

  • North Harris Medical Practice, Lewis (provides services to all people who have a learning disability living in the Western Isles. Nurses are based in Leurbost (tel) 01851 860777.

Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse Consultant

  • Stornoway (supports and works with staff from the acute hospital wards to improve on the standards of care for people who have dementia)
