Buggy Buddies.... the great way for local parents to get more active whilst caring for their baby!
A new local buggy walking group aimed at parents and carers of babies and toddlers in buggies, prams or carriers has been hailed a success.
The new Buggy Buddies group, officially launched on Monday 5th June by NHS Western Isles’ Health Visiting team, welcomed 12 parents and 14 babies to its first outing.
The group, which meets every Monday at 10.30am from the Stornoway Golf Club car park during the summer months, is organised by Elaine MacMillan, Trainee Health Visitor, who said she was “delighted” at the initial turnout and expected further new members to join the group over the next few weeks.
Elaine explained, “Buggy Buddies is free, open to all parents and carers and no pre-booking is necessary – you simply show up. The group is a great way for baby to get fresh air within our beautiful Castle Grounds, whilst parents and carers have an opportunity for some gentle exercise.
She added, “During the walk we saw a number of new friendships forged, which is particularly useful for parents of similarly aged children to their own. We believe that the more relaxed parents are, the more relaxed their baby will be and these walks also help to increase parent and baby bonding time.”
“Health Visiting staff are also available for parents and carers should they wish to seek advice without a formal home visit.”
