NHS Western Isles recently received a recliner chair through a community donation raised in memory of Mary Flora MacDougall, Claddach Carinish, North Uist.
Mary Flora’s family had expressed a wish for monies raised to be used to purchase a recliner chair which would provide comfort for Uists patients in need of palliative care at home. The ‘Smartseat', which is recognised as being a suitable chair for use in the community, is a highly specialised chair with features and functions which enhances patient care and comfort.
Donald Alick MacDougall, Mary Flora’s husband, said “I would sincerely like to thank everyone who donated so generously to Mary Flora’s funeral collection. We were overwhelmed at raising a total of £2324.”
Fiona Creighton, NHSWI Macmillan Nurse Specialist, said “The Macmillan Nursing team in Uist and Barra consider this very generous gesture by Mary Flora’s family and friends to be a fitting legacy to her memory. On behalf of NHS Western Isles we are very thankful to receive this chair and have no doubt whatsoever that it will provide much needed comfort to those who will use it in future”.
