Introduction

The Public Health & Health Strategy Division's Health Promotion Department exists to enable and empower people, groups and communities to make informed choices about their lifestyle, in order to improve and sustain their health and quality of life. This is achieved through the implementation of a number of evidence-based programmes.

It also works with groups and agencies collaboratively to address wider issues that impact on health eg. poverty, housing, or the effects of unemployment.

THE MISSION

It does this by identifying needs, offering specialist advice, education and policy development, raising awareness of sensitive issues and promoting equity and accessibility.

Health Promotion is a lead agent for promoting the health of the community, working in partnership with statutory, voluntary and other organisations. At all times it strives to adopt an ethical and holistic approach to its work following the World Health Organisation's Health For All initiative.

The Department has a variety of programmes delivered in a number of settings eg. workplace, community or school.
