HEAT Targets

Smokefree Hebrides has been very busy over the last 6 months and are well on the way to meeting their Heat 6 Target.

This has been possible as a result of a lot of hard work from the Cessation Team and of course the support from referral sources. This includes: GPs, Consultants, Practice Nurses, Dentists, the Well North Project and also from many of our quitters

themselves. Smokefree Hebrides would like to thank everyone who supports the service across the Western Isles.

For further information please contact Joanne O'Donnell, Smoking Cessation Coordinator.

No Smoking Day 2010 - Lewis & Harris

Smoke Free Hebrides had some serious fun sharing the message of the benefits of not smoking with local communities marking No Smoking Day on 10th March.

Using the theme of 'Breaking Free', two volunteers were dressed in their convict outfits, with P.C. Scott MacDonald, Stornoway Police branch, very kindly taking on the role of 'Jailer'.

Volunteers, Iain MacKenzie of Third Sector Hebrides and Lorraine Gillies from Health Promotion, along with the Cessation Team, spent the day going around Stornoway, visiting Western Isles Hospital, Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar, Health Board Offices and Lews Castle College.

Smoke Free Hebrides was delighted at the positive response from the public to this Health Promotion event and for their generous support to their named charity, MacMillan Cancer Support - raising over £230 on the day.

Both Iain and Lorraine are ex-smokers, of one year and four months respectively, and used the support of Smoke Free Hebrides - they would encourage anyone thinking of making a quit attempt to contact the Cessation Service.

For further information please contact Joanne O'Donnell, Smoking Cessation Coordinator.
