Training Training
events and courses offered directly by Health Promotion, or in conjunction with
other agencies, are available to anyone with an interest in health and health
issues, such as health professionals, workplaces, community and voluntary groups,
and students, but this will be clearly stated. Tailored
training and education can be provided to parents, youth groups and community
groups, on a variety of health topics on request. The following list of training

Applied
Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) |

Two-day
workshop which offers intensive training for front-line
workers and community members. to be held in the Clinical
Skills Area, Western Isles Hospital, on 1st & 2nd December
2011.
This free training is run by the Choose Life Coordinator
and emphasises teaching suicide first-aid to help a person
at risk stay safe and seek further help as needed. ASIST
provides practical training for caregivers seeking to prevent
the immediate risk of suicide.

Alcohol
& Drug Training for Managers |

The Scottish Centre
for Healthy Working Lives in partnership with Alcohol Focus
Scotland and the Scottish Drugs Forum has developed a half-day
training programme which is designed to give information
and guidance to employers to help deal with workplace issues
on both alcohol and drugs.
The
sessions will enable employers and managers to create a
greater awareness around alcohol and drugs in their workplace
and provide them with the knowledge and skills to deal with
issues as they arise. On completion of this course, participants
will have:-

knowledge of the impact of alcohol and drugs on the
workforce. |

Increased
knowledge of all forms of substances and their impact
on the individual and workplace. |

Increased
awareness of the legal framework within which to implement
workplace alcohol and drugs policies. |

awareness of development and implementation of alcohol
and drugs policies. |

Increased
confidence in dealing with staff issues around alcohol
and drugs. |

will be a course taking place on Wednesday 22nd February
in the H.M. Coastguard Meeting Room, Battery Point, Stornoway
1.30p.m. - 5.00p.m., delivered by Alcohol Focus Scotland
trainers and co-ordinated by the Healthy Working Lives team.
