Proposed Modernisation of Hospital and Community Services in Uist
Your Chance to Comment
NHS Western Isles outlined in its Clinical Strategy a commitment to develop healthcare 'hubs' across the Western Isles. This concept of 'hubs' were favoured by members of the public across the Outer Hebrides during the extensive consultation process carried out during 2008.
A number of Hubs have been developed to date, Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway has been designated as a healthcare hub, and a healthcare hub has recently opened in Tarbert, encompassing dental services, the local GP Practice and a base for community and Allied Health Professional services. Work is ongoing to develop a modern hub in Castlebay, Barra, to include a new hospital, ambulance base, the local GP Practice and social care facility.
To ensure that the vision of a modern healthcare hub is also achieved in Uist, NHS Western Isles has committed to progressing work to scope options during 2015, giving members of staff and the public the opportunity to provide feedback and comments on what services could be co-located, how services could be more efficiently and effectively delivered, as well as considering what opportunities and challenges should be considered as part of the process.
Although NHS Western Isles is consulting on the model of service (including location of services), no final decision has been made.
This discussion has come at the start of the process of integrating Health services and Social care services. The Uists and Barra Hospital is part of this integration. As we are reviewing the creation of a Healthcare Hub, we have an opportunity to discuss how we can integrate services as part of this development.
The consultation is the opportunity for everyone with an interest to give their views and provide feedback. We wish to ensure that stakeholders have a voice and that all options are given careful consideration within the bounds of what can be achieved.
We look forward to welcoming you along to our Stakeholder event in the Ballivanich Community Hall on the 3rd February 2016 between 1 and 3 pm. You can join us, for however long you can spare, to give us your views. We will gather this information together and use it to help inform us of the "bigger picture".
