Speech and Language Therapists work in the hospital and community. We work with a huge variety of people – from young children who stammer to older people recovering from stroke and other brain injuries. We aim to help give them ‘voice’ by improving their communication abilities and addressing their swallowing, eating and drinking difficulties.
We work closely with parents, carers and other professionals, such as teachers, nurses, occupational therapists and doctors.
We are governed by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists – for more information, check their website at www.rcslt.org .
Working Together
Communication difficulties impact on a person's whole life ie social life, work life, education, health and mental health, independence etc.
Speech and Language Therapy is always provided in partnership with the person and the significant people in their lives eg spouse / partner/ parent/carer / education staff/ health staff etc In this way we can improve the support available and therefore improve the outcomes for our clients. |
