Volunteering

Walk Leader award

Did you know that there are over 6,000 volunteers throughout NHS Scotland and over 60 in NHS Western Isles? There are also over 100 different volunteering roles within the NHS as a whole.

We recognise that volunteers can bring experience, skills and enthusiasm to NHS Western Isles and will enhance the services we provide. Volunteering has itself been proven as having health benefits, and we are keen to encourage people to take up volunteering as a health promotion activity in itself.

You could be the person that we're looking for.

If you are thinking about taking the next step and volunteering with us, we have included our current list of Volunteer Role Descriptors. Each Role Descriptor is presented similar to a job description. We have also included our Volunteering within NHS Western Isles Guide to answer any questions you may have.

If you would like to apply to become a volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Application Form here and return it to us. Our contact details are given below. The Volunteer Application Form must be completed and sent along with a Criminal Disclosure form (available from our office) and accompanying ID documentation. Photocopies of the ID documentation are accepted. Please note that two referees are required for the Volunteer Application Form, who we will contact after your application has been received.

Volunteers are able to claim reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred during their volunteering. If you are claiming benefits, you need to make sure the only money you receive is to cover your volunteering expenses, such as travel from home to the volunteering location.

We work closely with our departments and encourage potential volunteers to come in and meet with them informally.

If you would like to find out further information on volunteering, please contact or visit our Volunteer Service at the Western Isles Hospital.

We look forward to being of service.
