Active Hebrides Strategy open for Public Consultation
Published on 31 October 2018

The Outer Hebrides Community Planning Partnership (OHCPP) is pleased to present their Physical Activity Strategy for public consultation.
Produced by a multi-agency group comprising of NHS Western Isles, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Scottish Natural Heritage, Community Land Scotland, sportscotland, and Lewis and Harris Youth Clubs Association, the document provides a framework for physical activity and sport in the Outer Hebrides.
Colin Gilmour, Head of Health Improvement, NHS Western Isles said: “We want to hear our communities’ views on this strategy.
“One of the overarching aims of this work is to reduce inequalities. Reducing inequalities means supporting people who are least able to be physically active such as older people, people with physical or learning disabilities, to find an activity that suits them.
“We intend to promote inclusive and participative sport and physical activity that everyone can join in with.”
Physical activity is about getting people moving. Daily walking, playing in a park, going to a gym, training with a team or aspiring to win a gold medal – it really doesn’t matter how people get active, it just matters that they do. Being physically active contributes to our personal, community and national wellbeing.
Norman A Macdonald, Chair of the Outer Hebrides Community Planning Partnership, stated: “The Outer Hebrides represents a natural outdoor playground which contributes to the quality of life and brings benefits to the physical, mental and social health and wellbeing of the people of the Outer Hebrides. This strategy aims to enhance our ability to make the Outer Hebrides a more active place to live in.”
