Are you ready for alcohol recovery?

Virtual drop-in recovery meetings have recently been set up within the Western Isles, and are held via Zoom each Tuesday between 2.30pm-3.30pm.

Offering support to people at the beginning of their recovery journey from alcohol, and part of the Recovery Agenda, the Virtual Recovery meetings are also available to those who are progressing further along their alcohol recovery pathway.

Joe Wilson, Outer Hebrides Alcohol & Drug Partnership Recovery Community Officer, said “Everyone is welcome and there is no judgement.  Those attending the virtual meetings are also assured that privacy is of the utmost importance.  It is your choice as to how private you wish to be and it is your decision on whether you wish your face or details to be shared to others attending the meetings.  We have adopted the principle that ‘what is shared in the meeting, stays in the meeting’.”

Group members have already reported on how they have benefited from attending, this has included how they have felt more at ease attending the virtual meetings than a face-to-face meeting because they did not feel ready, at that point, to attend a public meeting.

If you would like to take part in the Virtual Recovery meetings, then please type in the following via Zoom: Meeting ID: 87656233487 Password: 794901

In the near future, and as part of the Recovery Agenda, a local Family Support Network will also be established.  In advance of this being set up, Joe would welcome contact from any local family members who are affected by a loved one’s substance use to find out what support they feel they could benefit from that could be incorporated into the group’s planning.   For further information on any of the information detailed, please contact Joe Wilson, Recovery Community Officer, telephone 0777 300 4229 or email: joseph.wilson2@nhs.scot
