Barra to host NES Mobile Skills Unit
Published on 2 September 2025
The NHS Education for Scotland (NES) mobile skills unit will be based at the Barra Airport overflow carpark from Monday 18th – Friday 19th September, to support local multi-agency staff to attend clinical skills training and education.
The unit, a 12-metre-long lorry featuring a custom-built classroom with video debrief system and a separate control room, will enable staff to attend clinical simulation, meaning copying real-life activities in a safe setting and practicing what they would do in such a situation.
In addition, a multi-agency exercise will take place on Wednesday 17th September, which will include the use of the rough ground immediately to the north of the airport. It should be noted that during this exercise this area will be fenced off, and individuals will notice an unusual amount of activity, including the use of vehicles.
It should be noted that cameras may also be used during these activities.
