Gillian McCannon appointed as Chair of Western Isles NHS Board

NHS Western Isles is delighted to announce that Gillian McCannon has been appointed as Chair of Western Isles NHS Board.  The announcement was made by Humza Yousaf MSP, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care at Scottish Government. 

Gillian has spent over 40 years of her professional career, both within the NHS as a registered nurse holding the position of senior nurse, as well as developing service transformation and latterly as an academic teaching fellow for undergraduate and post graduate nurse education at the Western Isles Campus for the University of Stirling. 

Gillian is delighted to take up the role of Chair on Western Isles NHS Board, bringing to the Board a wealth of experience and knowledge of the NHS. She has strong leadership skills that will support the strategic development of the Board and help shape and deliver the health care services for NHS Western Isles. 

Prior to being appointed as Chair, Gillian undertook the role of Interim Chair of Western Isles Health Board since October 2020.   

Gillian’s appointment will be for four years, from 5th July 2021 to 4th July 2025.  

NHS Western Isles is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 26,950 people living in the Western Isles, and provides a comprehensive range of acute, mental health, primary and community services.
