Interim Chair commends local COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic efforts

NHS Western Isles’ continuing commitment to the local COVID-19 effort has today been commended by its Interim Chair, Gill McCannon.

Gill, who was recently invited to receive her first COVID-19 vaccination, said:

“I, like many others, saw the benefit of being vaccinated against a disease that has serious consequences and wanted to protect myself, my family and the community in which I live and work. I also wanted to support the local team behind the implementation of the vaccination program, and have now seen first-hand the tireless work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that the people of our islands are vaccinated.

Since local vaccinations began, nearly 15,000 people have received their first COVID-19 vaccination, with around 2,100 receiving their second dose within the Outer Hebrides.

In addition, NHS Western Isles also announced this week that they had extended the invitation to those aged 45 and over for their first vaccinations, as well as anyone in the 16-64 at risk group, and unpaid carers aged 16 or over.

Those who are included in any of these categories are encouraged to contact the appointment line on 0808 196 8383, or alternatively they can email: wi.covidvax@nhs.scot to be contacted to arrange an appointment.

Gill added, “As Interim Chair of NHS Western Isles and having attended the local Vaccination clinic myself, I must say how proud I am to have experienced first-hand how seamless this process is from beginning to end. I now look forward to receiving my second vaccination.”
