New screening awareness resources
Published on 22 June 2023

Identifying signs and symptoms of disease at an early stage is important as it can increase treatment options and improve quality of life. Screening programmes help with early detection as disease can be found even before symptoms have developed giving the best chance of recovery.
NHS Western Isles is therefore pleased to launch new resources to increase awareness of the six screening programmes that are available in Scotland.
These new resources, which include a poster and bookmark, are bright, colourful and easy to understand.
The poster and bookmark highlight the screening programmes that you may be invited to participate in, depending on your age and sex, during your lifetime.
The programmes include: pregnancy & newborn, DES (Diabetic Eye Screening), cervical, bowel, and breast screening as well as AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) screening.
The resources will be used to promote the screening programmes in a variety of ways.
NHS Western Isles public health staff will be attending events this summer including the Uig show, South Harris show, North Uist agricultural show and the Barra science festival where they will give people the opportunity to find out more about the screening programmes.
NHS Western Isles' Health Promotion Department will also be sending out posters to public places and placing display boards around the community.
If you would like a display in your community/ workplace or a copy of the poster to display, please let us know by emailing: wi.hpadmin@nhs.scot
