NHS Western Isles confirms new COVID-19 cluster on Lewis

NHS Western Isles can confirm that two healthcare professionals on Lewis have today tested positive for COVID-19.

The individuals are currently self isolating, and NHS Western Isles can confirm that all the appropriate steps in terms of the Test and Protect guidance and support are fully underway.

We can reassure that these cases do not represent new community transmission of the virus, and the virus was not acquired locally. 
To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, we will not be releasing any further details at this time.

NHS Western Isles Chief Executive Gordon Jamieson, said: “We would like to reassure our local communities and visitors to the island that we are taking all necessary steps to contact trace, and contain the virus but it is vital that everyone in the Western Isles re double their efforts and follows the current Scottish Government restrictions and FACTS guidance to limit any spread of the virus.”

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are: A high temperature (37.8C of greater)And/or a new and continuous coughAnd/or a loss or change in your sense of smell and/or taste.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, no matter how mild, you and your household should immediately self isolate and book a test. Please be vigilant in terms of any new symptoms.

F – Face coverings.
A – Avoid crowded places.
C – Clean your hands and hard surfaces frequently.
T – Two metres – observe physical distancing.
S – Self-isolate and book a test if you are suffering from COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild.
