NHS Western Isles issues spring booster reminder for those most at risk from COVID-19

NHS Western Isles is encouraging anyone who is eligible for the COVID-19 spring booster and who has not yet come forward to get vaccinated by the end of June.

These additional vaccinations have been offered to people aged 75 or over and those aged over 12 who are immunosuppressed, with clinics operating since early March until 30 June.

Anyone in these groups who has not yet attended an appointment or a drop-in clinic, can call 0808 196 8383 to arrange an appointment, or can attend one of the scheduled drop-in clinics advertised at Coronavirus (COVID-19) – . (nhs.scot)

There are a number of drop-in clinics available before the end of the month:

  • Friday 24th June, Western Isles Hospital: 12.30pm – 6pm
  • Wednesday 29th June, Western Isles Hospital: 2pm – 4pm
  • Wednesday 29th June, Uist & Barra Hospital: 9am – 4pm
  • Thursday 30th June, Western Isles Hospital: 2pm – 4pm
  • Thursday 30th June, St Brendan’s Hospital: 11am – 1.30pm

COVID-19 continues to circulate and it remains crucial that those most at risk of severe effects from the virus protect themselves by getting their spring booster vaccination. Immunity from the vaccine wanes over time and the booster provides important additional protection.

Health Secretary Humza Yousaf said: “Vaccination has been our most effective tool against coronavirus and I am pleased so many people have come forward for their spring booster.

“We are seeing higher numbers of infections across our communities at the moment which is why booster vaccination is needed to maintain the best protection against COVID-19 for those at highest risk. We continue to encourage everyone to receive the doses they are eligible for as and when they become available.”
