NHS Western Isles rolls out the welcome mat (and the mince pies!) for the Scottish Ambulance Service Vaccination Bus

NHS Western Isles is delighted to welcome a very special visitor to our islands – the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) Vaccination Bus! This mobile clinic has been touring remote and rural Scotland since 2021, and for the first time ever it’s made the journey to the Western Isles. We’re rolling out the red carpet for clinics in Ness, Harris and Lewis.

If you’ve missed a vaccine appointment, or simply fancy ticking it off your to-do list in style, hop aboard! The friendly SAS team can offer vaccines to:

  • Adults eligible for Flu, Covid, Shingles, Pneumococcal or RSV
  • Children aged 2–18 years for the nasal flu vaccine

You do not need an appointment to attend the vaccination bus, you can drop-in to any of these scheduled clinics:

Tuesday 9 December – Ness

  • Spors Nis – 09:30–15:00

Wednesday 10 December – Stornoway

  • Nicolson Institute – 09:30–13:30
  • Charlie MacLeod Ltd (Butchers) – 14:00–16:30

Thursday 11 December – Harris

  • Leverburgh Free Church – 10:00–14:00
  • Harris Hotel – 15:00–16:30

Everyone who attends the vaccination bus will be treated to a hot drink and a mince pie – festive spirit guaranteed!

With flu circulating at particularly high levels nationally, we’re encouraging as many people as possible to get protected. Current flu vaccine uptake across the Western Isles shows there’s still room for improvement:

  • Ages 2–5 years: 55.7%
  • Ages 6–13 years: 68.0%
  • Ages 14–18 years: 30.4%
  • Ages 18-64 years At Risk: 38.2%
  • Ages 65 + years: 63.9%

Please come along, roll up your sleeve, enjoy a warm cuppa, and help protect yourself, your family, and your community. The bus is ready, the team is smiling – and the mince pies are waiting!
