Parents and carers urged to get pre-school 2-5 year old children immunised against flu this year
Published on 7 September 2021
Parents and carers of all 2-5 year old children in the Western Isles are being urged to get their child immunised against flu.
Appointment letters have been issued inviting pre-school 2-5 year olds forward for the free flu nasal spray (children in school should have received consent forms in their schoolbags). If you have not yet received an appointment letter, please phone 01851 708028 (Monday to Friday, 9am – 3.30pm) to book an appointment.
Flu is serious and immunity levels may be lower this year so it’s more important than ever that your child gets the free flu vaccine nasal spray.
The nasal spray is quick, painless and won’t give your child flu. It will protect your child and reduce the risk of spreading flu to friends and family.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Nicola Steedman, said: “Flu can be serious, even for healthy children and young people. That’s why we’re immunising all children from aged 2 to S6 against flu this year. With public health restrictions in place last year, our 2-5 year olds are likely to have lower immunity to flu than in previous years. I’d urge all parents and carers to take up the offer of getting the free flu vaccine for their child this year and help us stop the spread of flu. It’s safe and offers the best protection we have against flu.”
