Podiatry services temporarily reduced in Uists and Barra

NHS Western Isles would like to inform Podiatry service users that due to unforeseen circumstances podiatry services in the Uists and Barra will be operating at a reduced level of service for the forthcoming period.

All patients will be offered appointments in Uist and Barra Hospital or at St Brendan’s.

The capacity for home visits is limited during this period, however individual circumstances will be taken into account when making appointments, and the Podiatry services will prioritise high risk patients.

An NHSWI Podiatrist will visit the islands from February 18th-22nd and on March 4th-6th, before two NHSWI Podiatrists visit from March 18th-29th.

There will then be an additional permanent part-time podiatrist based in the Uists, commencing on April 1st.

The NHSWI Podiatry service has been liaising with local GP practices and community nursing teams regarding patients who have shared care to ensure they are being given priority.

And during this period, any patients who are experiencing difficulties or who develop foot ulceration/infection, should contact their GP in the first instance, and the Podiatry department on 01851 708285.
