Shine a light on nursing excellence in the Western Isles

Do you know a nurse or nursing team who goes above and beyond for patients every single day? Now is your chance to give them the recognition they deserve.

NHS Western Isles is encouraging our local community to nominate outstanding individuals or teams for the Royal College of Nursing Scotland’s Nurse of the Year 2026 – a prestigious celebration of innovation, excellence in practice, leadership, and commitment.

These awards aim to highlight, promote and celebrate the innovation and professionalism of Scotland’s nursing staff. We want to shine a spotlight on the best of nursing in the Western Isles.

Nominations for 12 of the award categories are open to individuals and teams working in both hospitals and care homes across Scotland. Award categories include:

  • Adult Nursing
  • Care Home Nursing
  • Children & Midwifery Nursing
  • Clinical Leadership
  • Inspiring Excellence – Nursing Innovation and Research Award
  • Learning Disability Nursing
  • Learning in Practice
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Nursing Student of the Year
  • Nursing Support Worker of the Year
  • Nursing Team of the Year
  • People’s Choice

The deadline for entries is 31 October 2025 with the winners announced at a glittering awards ceremony taking place in the Grand Gallery in the National Museum of Scotland in April 2026.
