Welcome return of Bosom Buddies!
Published on 17 May 2021
Bosom Buddies, the weekly local breastfeeding support group led by NHS Western Isles, is returning to Stornoway this coming Wednesday (19th May).
However local mums choose to feed their baby is their decision but it is also important that they are able to access good quality breastfeeding support, as well as having the opportunity to forge new friendships with other parents.
Led by the local Health Visiting team, the free group encourages nursing mums to come together and offer support to each other, and will meet from 10.30am-12 noon at The Failte Centre on Bayhead, Stornoway.
Anna Mackay, Health Visitor, said, “We recognise it has been a challenging time for all new parents due to COVID-19 social isolation restrictions. However, in restarting Bosom Buddies we know our friendly group will allow mums to form new friendships, which will also improve their overall maternal mental health. Staff from our friendly Health Visiting team are always in attendance at the group, should parents ever wish to seek advice without a formal home visit.
“In addition, our nursing mums can also offer a fantastic source of breastfeeding tips, and are great for ongoing support, particularly when there is nothing wrong but a bit of moral support and reassurance is needed. So, whether you are already breastfeeding, or an antenatal mother hoping to breastfeed in the future, you will be made most welcome at our small group.”
Due to following Scottish Government advice, 15 mothers are permitted to attend at each group session (children under 5 do not count towards these numbers) and places must be booked in advance.
To book, please telephone Anna Mackay on 0782 506 3024 or email: wi.nps@nhs.scot
Anyone who develops any symptoms of COVID-19 should not attend the group under any circumstances. Instead, they (and their household) should self-isolate and arrange a test by contacting the local COVID-19 Response Team on 01851 601151 or emailing: wi.covid19queries@nhs.scot
Please note that we will be collecting contact details for Test and Protect, in the event of any group member developing symptoms.
