Western Isles nurses of the future!
Published on 30 September 2019

NHS Western Isles staff recently attended the Developing Young Workforce event at Tong School.
Staff took mini tunics along to the event for the children to try on, along with equipment, bandages etc. The tunics are part of a national initiative to help tackle gender stereotypes and encourage children to think about nursing as the diverse career that it is today. Sharing of pictures is encouraged using the hashtag #FutureNurse.
Tong School Head Teacher, Carol Ann Maclean, said: “We held a Developing the Young Workforce event to explore the world of work. All children from Nursery to Primary 7 were able to select careers/voluntary opportunities that they were interested in and find out about the different skills involved in that job.
“The children spent 20 minutes learning about a career before moving to another choice as it was held as a workshop format. It was a very successful event with over 30 partners involved! We look forward to hosting a similar event next year.”
