Working Health Services Offers Free Support for Small to Medium sized Businesses in the Western Isles

Small to Medium businesses and the self-employed across the Western Isles are being encouraged to take advantage of Working Health Services Scotland (WHSS)—a free and confidential service designed to support employees and business owners with health issues affecting their ability to work.

This week, Stuart Breslin from Working Health Services Scotland delivered an informative online session, aimed at small to medium size employers without access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). The session outlined the range of practical support available through WHSS, including access to occupational therapy, physiotherapy, counselling, and case management services—all at no cost to the employer or employee.

Norma Macleod, from the Public Health Department of NHS Western Isles, facilitated the session and emphasised the vital role WHSS can play in helping people stay in or return to work following illness or injury.

“Many small businesses in the Western Isles do not have the resources to offer in-house support services to their staff,” said Norma. “Working Health Services Scotland fills this gap, providing early intervention and tailored support that can make a real difference to individuals and businesses alike.”

The service is available to self-employed individuals and employees working in small to medium businesses with fewer than 250 staff. It focuses on improving health and wellbeing in the workplace, reducing absence, and helping maintain productivity.

Stuart Breslin added: “WHSS is an invaluable resource for small to medium employers and the self-employed. We work with people to identify the support they need and help them access services that can make a significant impact on their recovery and work capacity.”

Employers or individuals interested in learning more about the service can visit Working Health Service Scotland at https://whss.salus.co.uk/ or call 0800 0192211 or contact Norma Macleod, Western Isles Public Health Department on 01851 708033.
