Outpatient Appointments

If you require an Outpatient appointment, you will receive an appointment letter or card in the post.

If you are provided with an appointment date and time that you are unable to attend, please inform us as soon as possible so that we can rearrange your appointment for a more convenient time and can offer your original appointment to someone else.

What should I take with me?

Car parking for patients and visitors is available at or near the entrance of our hospitals. At Western Isles Hospital, there is a patient and visitor car park within the barriered area. We ask that all patients and visitors park within this area.

A drop-off/pick up point is available at the front door of the hospital for patients who are elderly or infirm. Disabled parking spaces are also situated at the front of the hospital. If you are not disabled, you must not park at these points or in areas which obstruct other users' access to parking spaces or buildings.

Once you are inside the hospital, you can go straight to the Outpatient Department, through the main reception area. Show your appointment letter to the receptionist at the Outpatient Department desk, who will direct you to the appropriate waiting area. A nurse will greet you in the waiting area and will take your letter. In some cases, a nurse may carry out some simple tests before you are seen by the doctor, e.g. height, weight, blood pressure.

How long will I have to wait?

We always try to ensure that you are seen as close to your appointment time as possible. However, if an emergency arises, your doctor may be called away and some delays will be unavoidable.

Your appointment

The Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway is a teaching hospital, so student doctors or nurses may be present. You will be given the opportunity to say if you would prefer to see your doctor alone.

If you would like the nurse to accompany you, please just ask.
