Our Services: Public Health

Welcome to the NHS Western Isles Division of Public Health & Health Strategy.

The Division is responsible for promoting and protecting the health of people and the communities in the Outer Hebrides – where they live, learn, work and play.

While a doctor treats people who are sick, public health aims to prevent people from getting sick or injured in the first place. We also promote wellness by encouraging healthy behaviours.  Within the Outer Hebrides we also support the development of organisational and community resilience.

Our staff come from a wide range of different professional backgrounds and work with key partners across the Outer Hebrides.  This includes NHS, local authority, statutory and voluntary sectors, communities and workplaces.  We also work in partnership with national agencies including Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland.
