NHS Western Isles weather impact update

NHS Western Isles is not cancelling planned services as a result of the current weather conditions, though some community services (e.g. community nursing) are running essential visits only. Arrangements are in place to ensure ongoing care for the most vulnerable patients or those who require ongoing scheduled attendance.

If you have a scheduled healthcare appointment with NHS Western Isles, unless you have been contacted to advise otherwise, the appointment should proceed as normal. If you are unable to travel to your appointment, please contact the service as soon as possible to let staff know that you will be unable to attend.

We are aware that some GP Practices and other healthcare providers are operating reduced hours/services, so please check with your GP/optometrist if you have a scheduled appointment before travelling.

Please also ensure you look out for friends and neighbours, in particular those who are elderly or unwell.

NHS Western Isles Chief Executive, Gordon Jamieson, said: “I would like to thank our staff who are continuing to ensure that services are safely provided in the current challenging weather conditions. We are aware and grateful that staff are being flexible and responding to demand to meet the needs of services in the circumstances and this is hugely appreciated.”

Individuals should take care when travelling at all times and refer to Travelling in heavy snow and ice – Met Office for further information and advice.
