Non-Executive member opportunities at Western Isles NHS Board

Western Isles NHS Board is looking for two new members to join its Board. Applications are invited from people who have an interest in public service and are committed to the NHS in Scotland.
NHS Western Isles is responsible for the protection and the improvement of its population’s health and for the delivery of frontline healthcare services. The Board’s role is to deliver high quality, person centred care and to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of the Western Isles.

Board meetings will normally be held via MS Teams link. Governance committee meetings will be a blend of virtual and in-person meetings.
As a non-executive member of the Board, you will be expected to play a central role in ensuring the efficient, effective and accountable governance of the organisation and play your part in supporting the delivery of the organisation’s strategic direction. You will be offered the training you need to make a strong contribution.
Role Criteria
For one of these posts we are looking for a Whistleblowing Champion who can provide assurance against the National Whistleblowing Standards.
For both posts, you must also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Appreciation of the variety of challenges in healthcare delivery in the Western Isles
We are looking for individuals who live in the Western Isles for the Member role. Please note that this is not necessary for the Whistleblowing Champion Member role.
- Ability to demonstrate NHS Scotland’s shared values
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to contribute effectively to the decision making of the Board

Remuneration and Time Commitment
£14,352 (non-pensionable) per annum for a time commitment of one day per week (52 days per year). This commitment will vary week to week but you must be able to make a firm commitment to spend 8 hours per week on Board business. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
