SHARE

Sometimes, people who want to be involved in medical research don’t know how to get involved. Researchers have a similar problem; they need people to take part in studies but sometimes find it difficult to find enough people to take part in them.

SHARE has established a register of people aged 11 years and over (currently over 282k members), who are interested in participating in health research and who agree to allow SHARE to use the coded data in their NHS records to check whether they might be suitable for health research studies. This access to health data can be incredibly useful when it comes to developing new treatments and cures for a wide variety of health conditions.

Some participants have additionally agreed to allow any spare blood, left-over following routine clinical tests, to be used for anonymised health research. This is known as the SHARE Biobank.

When you join, you might be invited to take part in a health research study in the future but it would be up to you at the time to decide if you wanted to participate.

It only takes a minute to join the SHARE register and Biobank, but together we can make a real difference to Scotland's future health.

SHARE – The Scottish Health Research Register and Biobank, is an NHS Research Scotland initiative, supported by the Universities in Scotland and the Chief Scientist Office. We are a valuable resource which aids medical research projects through facilitating studies, providing participant recruitment and a bio resource of surplus bloods.
