Allied Health Professionals (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Radiographers, Dietetics, Podiatry)
Allied Health Professionals work across the hospital and community settings. Allied Health Professionals are Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Podiatrists, Speech and Language Therapists, Radiographers and Physiotherapists.
Occupational Therapy Services assess and support adults and children to overcome functional problems and live as independently as possible. This might include a range of interventions e.g. advice on conditions, information or help to problem solve a particular issue, arrange adaptations to a person's home, school or work environment, or provide equipment to make everyday tasks possible. The Community Equipment Delivery Rota for CES Schedule Lewis & Harris can be found here, the rota for CES Schedule Uist & Barra is here.
Physiotherapy provides physical assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and promotion of self management. The Physiotherapy Department aims to aid recovery, help reduce/eliminate pain, increase functional ability and promote healthier lifestyles/self management of long term conditions.
Speech and Language Therapists work with a huge variety of people – from young children who stammer, to older people recovering from stroke and other brain injuries. They aim to help give them ‘voice’ by improving their communication abilities and addressing their swallowing, eating and drinking difficulties.
The Dietetics Department offers specialist nutritional advice, assessment and provision of nutritional care in both the hospital and community. Dietitians offer advice to patients, staff, relatives and carers as well as delivering /supporting training and education associated with nutrition.
Podiatrists diagnose, assess, evaluate and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and structures of the leg. Whether it’s sports medicine, paediatrics, dermatology or diabetes, our podiatrists tackle the many diverse facets of foot care.
Radiographers and Ultrasonographers take x-ray images and scans to help diagnose and treat medical conditions. They have a responsibility to all patients and staff to use radiation safely. In some cases they provide the result of your examination to the medical staff looking after you.
