The Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards are an opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution Macmillan professionals make to cancer services. The prestigious and independent awards highlight excellence across the UK and the impact of Macmillan professionals and teams who have gone above and beyond expectations to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer.

The Western Isles Macmillan team has been shortlisted for the new ‘Whatever It Takes’ Award.

This new award category recognises those extraordinary efforts, where individuals and teams have had to adapt, innovate, collaborate, support wellbeing initiatives, show great resilience despite distressing situations and lead with compassion.

The Whatever It Takes award category aims to recognise unsung heroes that have truly gone the extra mile. The nominee should demonstrate values of heart, strength and ambition through compassion, kindness, and teamwork.

The local team will present to the panel in September.

NHS Western Isles Nurse/AHP Director & Chief Operating Officer, Fiona Mackenzie, said: “We are so delighted that the local team has been recognised for the incredible work they do; showcasing not just what they do, but how they do it – with heart, with strength, and with ambition.

“Our team provides invaluable support to local patients and their families. Cancer can touch every part of a patient’s life and this incredible team is there to support patients through each individual journey.”

Board Chair, Gillian McCannon, said: “On behalf of Western Isles NHS Board, I would like to pay tribute to this wonderful team, who do whatever it takes to support patients living with cancer. The team cares deeply about each and every patient and is uniquely positioned to support each individual. We are so proud that the team has rightly achieved national recognition and we wish them all the very best when they present in the autumn.”
