Keeping Families Fit, Healthy and Happy – Children’s Design Competition

Children across the Western Isles will have the opportunity to take part in a design competition being launched this week by NHS Western Isles.

The local Health Board is launching a competition for Western Isles children aged P1 – P7 to design a poster with the theme ‘Keeping Families Fit, Healthy and Happy’. We would be delighted if local schools could get involved and encourage and support participation.

Primary school children are invited to design posters using paints, pens, pencils, glitter (or using whatever other creative materials they prefer). Posters should be A4 size.

NHS Western Isles will select a winner in each of the seven year groups and each winning poster will be framed and displayed in the child’s local hospital and the child will also receive a certificate and gift voucher. NHS Western Isles will also share some of the designs on social media pages.

The competition is part of the NHS Western Isles’ Winter Communications Plan and encourages children to discuss with their parents, carers, guardians or teachers ways to keep families healthy and happy.

Designs must be submitted by 16th December 2024. Hard copies or high quality scanned pictures would be appreciated.

Scans can be emailed to wi.coms@nhs.scot or preferably, you can post your design to Communications Department, Health Board Offices, 37 South Beach, Stornoway, HS1 2BB. Don’t forget to include your child’s name, age, primary class and contact information when submitting designs.

NHS Western Isles Head of Communications, Claims and Patient Information, Maggie Jamieson, said: “We develop a Winter Communications Plan every year to help ensure key messages are shared across the Western Isles about how to stay healthy in the winter months and how to and access the most suitable services for those who need support. We are keen to get children and young people involved in thinking about health and wellbeing and to share and discuss this important topic with the adults in their lives.  If we all use the NHS wisely, we can keep well and get the care we need quickly and safely. Starting these conversations at a young age, and encouraging parents, carers and teachers to get involved, helps ensure that these important messages are well understood.”

NHS Western Isles hopes that children will enjoy taking part in this design competition.
