Nominations Open for Scotland’s Health Awards 2025 – Honouring NHS Heroes Across the Western Isles and Beyond

Nominations are now officially open for Scotland’s Health Awards 2025, offering a unique opportunity for the public to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of healthcare professionals across NHS Western Isles and the wider NHS Scotland network.
Organised by The Scotsman in partnership with NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government, the annual awards shine a spotlight on the individuals and teams who go above and beyond to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to communities across the country.
From frontline staff to behind-the-scenes support workers, the awards honour the full spectrum of health and social care professionals whose dedication and innovation are vital to the wellbeing of Scotland’s people.
The 2025 award categories include:
- Support Worker Award
- Innovation Award
- Volunteers Award
- Midwife Award
- Allied Health Professional Award
- Global Citizenship Award
- Care for Mental Health Award
- Integrated Care Award
- Tackling Health Inequalities Award
- Leader of the Year Award
- Nurse Award
- Doctor Award
- Healthcare Scientist Award
- Pharmacist Award
- Young Achiever Award
- Top Team Award
- Unsung Hero – Reader's Choice Award
The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony and gala dinner to be held at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange in November 2025.
Nominations close on Sunday, 17 August 2025.
The Community Equipment Service (CES) and Janette Murray, Service Manager Urgent & Unscheduled Care, were both shortlisted for awards in Scotland’s Health Awards 2024. The CES team were shortlisted for the Unsung Hero Award, which is for a team who or individual whose work makes a real difference but often goes unrecognised.
Janette was shortlisted for the Nurse Award which aims to recognise the high quality and compassionate NHS nursing car that an individual nurse has provided. Janette describes the feeling of being shortlisted: “I was honoured to represent NHS Western Isles as a Finalist in the “Nurse of the Year" category at the Scottish Health Awards.
“I was so encouraged and humbled by all the warm wishes I received locally, and was warmly welcomed at the awards, it was a definitely a career highlight for me.”
Members of the public, colleagues, and patients are encouraged to submit nominations and help give well-deserved recognition to those who make a real difference in health and care services.
