NHS Western Isles launches new breast screening film

An engaging breast screening short film answering some of the most commonly asked questions prior to attending breast screening has been produced by NHS Western Isles, in advance of the Breast Screening Mobile Unit returning to the Western Isles this month.

The film, produced in response from feedback by local women who previously attended the Unit, features a wide variety of local health professionals from throughout the Western Isles, offers information about breast screening (mammograms), including what to expect at your appointment, and helping women feel more informed and reassured before they attend.

Breast screening is routinely offered every three years to all women aged 50 to 70, the screening plays an important role in detecting breast cancer at an early stage, often before there are any signs or symptoms. Early detection improves the chances of successful treatment.  The appointment itself usually takes around 10 minutes, and while it's natural to feel a little anxious, many women say the experience is much quicker and easier than they expected.

It is important that your GP has your up-to-date address and mobile number, as invitations will be sent to your registered address three weeks in advance of your appointment. If you are unable to attend, or have any further questions about your appointment, please contact the Breast Screening Team using the details provided in your appointment letter.
