Breast Screening underway at new Stornoway base

NHS Western Isles is encouraging women to attend their breast screening appointments as the Breast Screening Mobile Unit has begun operating in it’s new location in Stornoway.

The mobile screening unit is now based in the Co-op car park on Macaulay Road, Stornoway, following feedback from local residents. The decision to move the location from the Western Isles Hospital came after a survey was carried out with those who attended the screening unit during its last visit to the Western Isles. This survey gathered views on the accessibility and convenience of the service.

Women who have received an appointment letter are encouraged to attend their breast screening appointment. Breast screening can detect breast cancer at an early stage, often before there are any signs or symptoms, when treatment is more likely to be successful.

To help women feel more informed about what to expect, NHS Western Isles has produced a short video about breast screening.
