Community invited to help name new MRI Suite at Western Isles Hospital

NHS Western Isles is inviting members of the community to play a special role in the future of local healthcare by helping to name the new MRI suite at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway.

The state-of-the-art facility represents a significant investment in diagnostic services for patients across the Western Isles, providing access to advanced imaging technology closer to home. As the new suite prepares to welcome patients, NHS Western Isles is seeking suggestions from residents for a name that reflects the unique identity, heritage and spirit of the islands.

The naming competition offers local people of all ages the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by contributing an idea that will become part of the hospital for years to come.

NHS Western Isles Chief Executive, Gordon Jamieson, said: “The new MRI suite is an important milestone for healthcare in the Western Isles, and we want our communities to feel a real sense of ownership and pride in this facility. We know there is tremendous creativity across the islands and we look forward to seeing the suggestions that come forward. Whether inspired by our landscape, language, culture or history, we encourage everyone to get involved and help us choose a name that captures the spirit of the Western Isles.”

Submissions are welcome from individuals, families, schools, community groups and organisations. Entries should include the suggested name together with a brief explanation of why it has been chosen.

A panel will review all submissions and select a name that best reflects the values and character of the Western Isles community.

Residents can submit their suggestions by:

Or alternatively:

• Post your suggestion to: Communications Team, Health Board Offices, 37 South Beach, Stornoway, HS1 2BB (including suggested name, reason for suggestion, if you are responding as an individual or representing a group/organisation, your name and contact details).

The closing date for entries is 5pm on 21st August.

The winning name will be announced following the judging process, and the chosen name will be displayed within the new MRI suite.
