Health Visiting & School Nursing Service: Our services and staffing

Health Visiting Service

The Health Visiting Service supports families with a new baby or child who is under five years old by offering advice and guidance.

Parents of newborns will be provided with a Health Visitor, who will make the first contact once your Community Midwife has transferred your care to the Health Visiting service, at around 10 days. The Health Visitor keeps in regular contact with families up until the child begins school.

Health Visitors are trained nursing staff who work with families to ensure pre-school-age children are provided with the best possible start in life.

Within NHS Western Isles there are two Health Visiting teams (Lewis & Harris and Uist & Barra). Click here to view Health Visiting staffing.
