Vaccination consent forms reminder for Nicolson Institute pupils

NHS Western Isles is reminding Nicolson Institute pupils to bring in completed vaccination consent forms on vaccination days next week.

The School Nurse team will be offering teenage booster immunisations to Nicolson Institute pupils on March 25 and 26.

Pupils who have not yet returned their consent forms are being asked to bring the completed forms to school as soon as possible. Anyone who has not returned the consent form before the vaccination days can bring their completed consent form on the day of vaccination.

You should return the consent form to your school, even if you’re not going to have the vaccine.

There are two teenage booster immunisations: the Td/IPV booster, which completes the course of childhood vaccines providing protection against tetanus, diphtheria and polio; and the MenACWY immunisation, which protects against meningitis and septicaemia (blood poisoning) caused by four strains of meningococcal bacteria – groups A, C, W and Y.

In Scotland, teenage booster immunisations are routinely offered to pupils in S3 at around 14 years of age. Pupils not immunised in S3 are re-offered the vaccine(s) in S4. Pupils not fully immunised as part of the routine cohort can also be offered the teenage booster immunisations in S5 and S6.
