Celebrate International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses Day with your local parkrun events
Published on 3 May 2024
To mark International Day of the Midwife (5 May) and International Nurses Day (12 May), Interim Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland Anne Armstrong, Chief Midwifery Officer for Scotland Justine Craig and parkrun UK are encouraging nurses and midwives across Scotland to take part in parkrun events this May.
Register for your local parkrun event and take part on Saturday 4 May for International Day of the Midwife or Saturday 11 May for International Nurses Day.
You can walk, jog, run, volunteer, or come along to cheer on others as we celebrate and recognise the enormous contribution and commitment of our nursing and midwifery colleagues across the NHSScotland, health and social care.
With more than 1,240 parkrun events taking place across the UK every weekend, parkrun offers a safe and inclusive space for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to be more active and social in the great outdoors.
Wear NHSScotland blue or your most colourful fancy dress, and encourage your colleagues, patients, friends, and family to come along too. Visit the parkrun website to find your local event and register for free https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register.
Our local parkrun event takes place at Lews Castle Grounds every Saturday at 9:30am. The event starts close to the gates, just beyond Cuddy Point. For more details on the course visit https://www.parkrun.org.uk/lewscastle/course/.
Gordon Jamieson, CEO, NHS Western Isles is encouraging people to get involved and has said: “Taking part in the parkrun events is a great way to celebrate our midwives and nurses and all their hard work and dedication to healthcare. These events are also a fantastic way for people to be more active, get together with others and think about health and wellbeing.”
