NHS Western Isles launches dedicated Gaelic homepage

As part of its continued commitment to the promotion of Gaelic, NHS Western Isles is pleased to announce the creation of a dedicated Gaelic webpage, mirroring its existing Home page, which can be viewed at www.wihb.scot.nhs.uk/gaelic

The Gaelic webpage features links to main sections; I am a patient, I am a carer, I am a visitor, Get involved, Our Services and About Us, as well as links to patient feedback responses, and how to access Near Me video appointments.

In addition, further links include Right Care, Right Place, local vaccination services, mental wellbeing, Care Opinion, Cancer: Get checked early, and local NHS recruitment and studying opportunities. Links to My Power of Attorney and Scotland’s Service Directory also feature as well as a range of local and national health and social care public services.

Individuals can swap between the English and Gaelic homepages by using the buttons marked EN and GD at the top right-hand side of each Home page.

Murdo Macleod, NHS Western Isles Operational Diversity Lead & Volunteer Service Co-ordinator, said: “I am delighted to see this use of Gaelic in our public website, as this fulfils a key aim of our 2023-28 NHSWI Gaelic Language Plan in relation to the visibility and public accessibility of our precious language.”

It is hoped this will assist Gaelic development in a variety of ways.  This includes helping increase the visibility of the language, enhance Gaelic’s status by being used in high profile publications, and can help develop new and enhance existing terminology.
