Vote to celebrate your local nurses!

Has a local nurse (community, specialist or hospital), health visitor or nursing support worker made a difference or gone the extra mile for you or someone you care for?  If so, islanders are being encouraged to enter them for the prestigious RCN Nursing Awards’ Patient’s Choice category, which has been extended until Wednesday 20 April.

Fiona C. Mackenzie, NHS Western Isles Nurse & AHP Director, said “I would urge patients who have received extraordinary care by members of our local nursing team to nominate them for the RCN Nursing Awards Patient’s Choice category.

“We recognise that recent years have been particularly difficult for NHS staff as a whole, and hope that islanders will celebrate the hard work and dedication of our staff who have shown exceptional care and support to them”.

Entries are accepted from patients and members of the public only.  Entries from nurses or colleagues of nurses will not be accepted.  Nominees do not need to be a member of the Royal College of Nursing and finalists for the award will be decided by the RCN panel of judges, with the winner decided by public vote.

Foundation of Nursing Studies chief executive Joanne Bosanquet, who will chair the judging panel, said nurses were incredibly busy at the moment, which is why the deadline for entries had been extended to allow them more time to enter.

‘Finalists and winners are featured in local, regional and national media, and RCNi’s nursing journals, so entering these awards can also shine a spotlight on the particular challenges a specialty might face, or highlight an overlooked group of people and their needs,’ she said.

The RCN Nurse of the Year 2022 will be chosen from the category winners and announced at the awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on 6 October.
