Western Isles hospitals launch new takeaway service

A new takeaway food service is now being offered by NHS Western Isles’ catering teams.

Launched on January 22, the new takeaway service is now available to all customers visiting Western Isles Hospital or Ospadal Uibhist agus Bharraigh’s dining room.

Takeaways are not self service and orders should be placed with the cashier.

Takeaways will be available at all meals times (breakfast/lunch /evening meals).  All menu items will be available to takeaway (breakfasts, hot filled rolls, toasties, paninis, homemade soup, hot main meals, salad bar items and desserts).

NHS Western Isles regularly receives feedback from both patients and visitors about the excellent quality of food prepared and cooked fresh in the hospital kitchens every day. Both informal feedback from patients in the wards and the last national inpatient Patient Experience Survey demonstrated that the vast majority of patients are pleased with the quality and range of food on offer. The last national survey undertaken in 2016 revealed that 91 per cent of respondents (inpatients) were happy with the meals they received (23 percentage points higher than the national average).

Board Chair, Neil Galbraith, also regularly receives feedback from patients during hospital walkrounds, about the high quality of food and meals available.

NHS Western Isles Chief Executive Gordon Jamieson, said: “The hospital catering services are part of our communities and, for those who may choose to use the service, it offers a convenient, high quality choice for them.”
