The Community Mental Health Nursing Service organises and coordinates the care of patients receiving community-based mental health care (i.e. care outside of hospital).

This service is offered to those living and working within the Western Isles.

We provide:

• nursing care for a person who is acutely ill
• support for a person with a long-term illness helping them to live a full life in their own community
• administration and monitoring, where required, of essential prescribed medication
• advice and support to patients and their families in all aspects of their care
• care and advice for the elderly confused patient and their families
• support for those with psychological problems.

In addition, staff may be able to offer help to families who have developed problems as a result of a family member’s illness.

Appointments can be held within the patient's home or at their GP Surgery.

The normal route of referral is from the patient's GP or Psychiatrist to the CPN team and they will normally be offered an appointment at their home or at their GP Surgery.

Drop-in adult service for those experiencing or have experienced mental health difficulties. Carers, friends and members of the general public are also welcome.

NHS Western Isles Community Chaplaincy Listening (CLL) Service (Western Isles)

The CLL service is not a counselling service, but instead offers a trained CLL listener to help you tell your story; understand your feelings and provide a safe space to explore a way forward for your own sense of health and wellbeing.  Referral to the service is made via GP, nurse or other healthcare professional requesting an appointment.

Uist Drop-in Service (Uists & Barra)
The team also offers a drop in service every Monday (excluding public holidays) from 12 noon – 2pm at An-Caladh, located at East Camp, Balivanich, Benbecula.
