Heading 2

We understand the impact that communication and swallowing problems have on the person’s whole life – interpersonal and social interactions, work, education, mental health, and the ability to live independently.

We always work in partnership with the client and the people in their lives to reduce the impact and improve outcomes. This may include partners, parents, carers, education staff, health and social care professionals.

From prevention and early intervention to rehabilitation after illness and advice for living well, we aim to enable better lives for people of all ages living with communication and swallowing difficulties.

‘Therapy’ is a broad term which may involve some or all of the following activities:

  • devising and carrying out treatments, interventions and programmes of care; these may be delivered individually, in small groups or by people who spend the most time with the client. e.g. partners, parents, teachers, and carers
  • helping clients, family, carers and professionals to accept, value and use all forms of communication equally
  • making use of new and convenient ways of delivering care such as video consultations (telehealth), apps and other technologies
  • training professionals from health, social care, education and justice settings in supporting people with communication and swallowing needs
  • writing reports to inform health, social care and education plans
  • supervising students and healthcare support workers to deliver care.
