Information for Castlebay Medical Practice patients

Castlebay Medical Practice to move to Health Board management  

As you may be aware, Dr Mark Willcox left Barra Medical Practice at the end of August 2022. 

Since his departure, NHS Western Isles has been working through the transition of the Practice, from independent GP Practice status to a Health Board managed and operated Practice. Some of our Primary Care staff and Senior Managers have been on Barra over recent weeks to support the process. All the current Practice staff have been transferred to NHS Western Isles employment and the process of change has gone smoothly without any significant issues.  

As a patient, you should not notice any change in service, other than a change in GP. The Practice is currently being supported by locum doctors, until substantive GP recruitment options are considered, agreed and concluded. NHS Western Isles is committed to communicating with you as this work progresses and we would like to reassure you that our aim is to preserve and enhance the existing service.
