Endowments Fund

Heading 2

Western Isles Health Board Endowment Funds is the official charity of NHS Western Isles, which was founded in 1956.

The charity is dedicated to support patients, families and staff, improving the health and wellbeing of the people of the Western Isles, which are beyond the core provisions of NHS Western Isles.

You can either donate to the general Endowment Funds or specify where you would like your donation to go. For example, you can direct your donation to:

  • purchase a specific piece of equipment
  • purchase amenities for patients or staff
  • benefit patients or staff of a particular Ward, Department or Service.

If you wish to do a fundraising event for a specific piece of equipment, please contact NHS Western Isles in advance to ensure the equipment can be accommodated within the area required, and that the equipment would pass Infection Control (and any other applicable) regulations.

If you choose to make a general donation, the Endowment Committee will ensure it is used for the benefit of patients and staff within NHS Western Isles. Please note that donations to Endowment Funds can be quite restrictive.

If you have an queries as to whether a donation can be made please contact: Cheryl Martin, PA to Director of Finance & Procurement, email: cheryl.martin@nhs.scot or tel. 01851 708045.

Some examples of how Endowment Funds have been used over the years as below:

  • Hospital Garden Projects in both the Western Isles Hospital and Uist and Barra Hospital
  • A Dementia Friendly room in Uist and Barra Hospital
  • Care Boxes and Memory Bags for patients.

In addition, we are also very happy to publish any fundraising event/donation towards NHS Western Isles on our social media channels.

The Endowment Funds is recognised by the Inland Revenue and the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). Its registration number is SC001015.

Fund Management

Western Isles Health Board Endowment Funds is managed by a Board of Trustees of which the membership is the same as that of NHS Western Isles.

Trustees meet at least four times a year to ensure the Fund is being well managed, and donations are improving the lives of patients and staff. Staff are also encouraged to make creative applications to the Endowment Funds to improve services beyond their core provision.
